In order to reduce the public health risks from arsenic in drinking water, on January 22, 2001, the EPA promulgated a revised standard of 10 parts per billion (ppb). Systems are required to comply wih the lower arsenic standard as of January 23, 2006. However, effective February 22, 2002, the regulatory changes also changed consumer confidence report requirements for water systems.
